Carrying Liability Insurance on your automobile is the law in Illinois. If you are caught without it, the
mandatory penalties are $500 for the first offense, $1000 for the second offense, and $1,500 for the
third offense.

Furthermore, if cited the following will apply:


• Driver can no longer bring proof of insurance to court in order to avoid a fine
• Each offense will be permanently recorded on your driving record
• SR-22 [financial responsibility] required for 1 year for first offense
• After third offense, your drivers license may be suspended for up to 3 years
